The 28^<th> Olympic Games in Athens were held from thelSth to 29th of August, 2004. This world event was broadcast on television and reported by newspapers, etc., and attracted and affected most people in Japan . The author argues that the television broadcast of the opening ceremonies and the Tokushima Shinbun (Newspaper) reports of the Olympics in Athens were important sources of information that encouraged international understanding. Not only the sports, but also the economic, political and cultural aspects of the participating countries were perceived through the Olympic Games. We should take the most advantage of this kind of information to gain more knowledge of the world and become more conscious of living in an international society. |
